Green leafy vegetables like spinach, fenugreek and mustard are available in abundance in winter. Delicious food can be prepared from them, but cleaning them is no less than a hassle. Soil, small insects and dust remain hidden between the leaves, which have to be washed repeatedly with water to remove them. Many times, some leaves cannot be cleaned properly in a hurry.

In such a situation, it is important to pay special attention to cleaning vegetables before preparing them. But now there is no need to work hard for hours to clean green vegetables. With the help of salt present in the kitchen, you can make cleaning a little easier.

Do this work first

  • First of all, separate the spinach, fenugreek or radish leaves from the bunch. Remove yellow, dry and damaged leaves.

How to clean green leafy vegetables

  • If there is a lot of soil accumulated on green leafy vegetables, they can be kept in water for some time.

  • For this, fill cold water in a deep vessel and add some salt in it.

  • Now leave the leaves in this water for about 10 minutes.

  • After the time is over, gently shake the leaves with your hands, so that the soil stuck on them becomes loose and settles down.

  • After this, take out the leaves in another vessel and wash them thoroughly with clean running water.

  • Keep in mind that it is not necessary that all the pesticides are completely removed by soaking in salt water. Therefore, do not forget to wash vegetables with clean water.

What things should you keep in mind

  • After washing the vegetables, leave them in the strainer for some time, so that the water accumulated in them gets removed. After this, gently wipe the leaves with a clean cotton cloth.

  • If you are going to use them later, then dry them thoroughly and then keep them in the refrigerator.

  • Keeping leaves in a closed container in wet condition can cause them to rot quickly.

  • Another thing to keep in mind is that wash spinach, fenugreek or radish leaves before cutting them. By doing this, the soil and dirt on top can be prevented from entering the vegetable through the cut parts.
