Mumbai: Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) has sent a 10-year-old girl for counselling after she was captured on camera lifting and throwing an 18-month-old girl down the stairwell of their housing society , resulting in the toddler’s death.
“JJB has sent the child into the care of a non-profit group for counselling. We have not registered any offence and will take action only as per JJB’s direction,” said a police officer.
The toddler lived on the sixth floor of a Goregaon building with her parents and brother. She was playing with a stray cat outside her house in the common corridor of the floor on Wednesday night. When her brother came to look for her later, she was nowhere to be found. Residents found the toddler on the ground floor severely injured. She was rushed to a doctor, who pronounced her dead.
Police, while investigating the case, went through CCTV footage which showed a 10-year-old neighbour lifting the toddler and throwing her down the stairwell. The 10-year-old and her family had moved to the housing society only a fortnight ago. Police produced her before JJB.
