Amritsar: The officiating jathedar of Akal Takht , Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj , has condemned the alleged action by Rajasthan Police inside Gurdwara Baba Deep Singh Ji in Sri Ganganagar , saying it hurt the sanctity of the gurdwara and the sentiments of Sikhs.

Gargajj alleged that police personnel damaged langar supplies and property, and tore posters bearing photographs of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and other Sikh figures.

Local Sikh leader Tejinderpal Singh was also reportedly arrested in connection with the incident.

Terming the alleged action “highly condemnable”, Gargajj called for strict action against officials responsible. He said if police had any grievance or legal issue, they should have followed due process and respected Sikh religious protocol instead of allegedly damaging property and religious material.

He urged Rajasthan chief minister to order an impartial inquiry into Tejinderpal Singh’s arrest and the alleged action inside the gurdwara, and sought action against officials found responsible.

The officiating jathedar said Sikhs would not tolerate injustice against any Sikh leader and demanded Tejinderpal Singh’s immediate release.

He said a Sikh delegation led by Takht Damdama Sahib jathedar Giani Tek Singh had visited Sri Ganganagar and inspected the site. The delegation, he said, found the alleged police action inside the gurdwara highly objectionable.
