Lucknow: A 17-year-old allegedly killed his 42-year-old mother after a dispute over his desire to undergo gender-affirming surgery at their apartment in Lucknow’s Rajendra Nagar area on Thursday, police said.




According to police, the minor had been living and presenting as a female and wanted to undergo surgery to transition. The issue had reportedly been a source of conflict within the family.




The incident took place at Vision Apartment near Rajendra Nagar crossing under the Naka Hindola police station limits. Preliminary investigation suggests an altercation broke out when the mother was allegedly trying to counsel the teenager against pursuing the procedure and advised medical and psychological intervention instead.




Police said the minor allegedly attacked the woman with an iron wrench , causing fatal head injuries. He later informed the police about the incident himself.




A police team reached the apartment and found the woman dead, while the minor was present at the scene. He was taken into custody and is being questioned.




Senior police officials and a forensic team inspected the spot and collected evidence, including the suspected weapon.




The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. SHO Naka Hindola, Vivek Kumar Chaudhary, said preliminary findings indicate the minor may be experiencing gender dysphoria . Experts and medical professionals will counsel the teenager as the investigation continues. Police said the exact sequence of events is being established through forensic examination and further inquiry.
