Chandigarh: Punjab chief electoral officer (CEO) Anindita Mitra said here on Thursday that 91.2% of the work under the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state had been completed.
She said the exercise had been wrapped up in eight districts — Moga, Nawanshahr, Mansa, Tarn Taran, Faridkot, Sangrur, Patiala and Malerkotla. “Of the state’s 117 assembly seats , work has been completed in 55,” she said in a statement.
“To ensure that every eligible elector is included in the electoral roll and to facilitate electors, booth level officers (BLOs) will contact electors in cases where notices have been issued and hearings or document submission are still pending,” she said, adding that BLOs would “collect requisite documents directly from them, instead of calling electors for hearings to offices”.
She added the arrangement will save electors from having to visit the offices of electoral registration officers (EROs) for personal hearings and submission of documents. The final electoral rolls under SIR in Punjab are scheduled to be published on Oct 12 .
