Preparations have been intensified to take forward the 'Where there are slums, there are houses' scheme towards making Delhi slum-free. Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and other concerned departments are working on a plan for in-situ rehabilitation of slums. Under the Delhi Master Plan 2027, a target has been set to rehabilitate about 17 lakh slum dwellers.

Meeting with private developers and stakeholders

To effectively implement the scheme, DDA organized investor meetings with private developers and representatives of various stakeholders. Important issues like structure of projects, implementation mechanism, potential risks and financing models were discussed in the meeting.

According to DDA officials, this meeting was organized with the aim of giving impetus to the slum rehabilitation program as per the instructions of Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu. The practical aspects of private sector participation and implementation of projects were also discussed.

Emphasis on in-situ rehabilitation

The main objective of the scheme is to provide permanent and better housing to the eligible slum dwellers in the vicinity of their current residence. Along with this, emphasis will be laid on holistic development of the surrounding areas and ensuring access to employment, public facilities and better urban infrastructure.

Role of private sector important

DDA Vice President N. Sarwan Kumar said that the private sector will play an important role in completing the large-scale rehabilitation program in Delhi. Suggestions and feedback received from investors and stakeholders will help in further improving the proposed framework.

DDA aims to advance the redevelopment of Delhi through inclusive and sustainable urban development, thereby ensuring better availability of housing and opportunities for all sections of the population in the city.
