New Delhi. Fatty liver problem has become a rapidly growing health concern in India. Its risk is increasing due to problems like poor diet, lack of physical activity, obesity and diabetes. According to experts associated with AIIMS, the burden of fatty liver is very high in India. A meta-analysis found an average prevalence of 38.6% in adults and 35.4% in children.
Fatty liver is now often called metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Its special thing is that many people do not feel any obvious problem in the initial stage. For this reason the disease is often detected during investigation.
Be alert if you see these 5 signs
1. Constant fatigue and weakness
Constantly feeling tired even without doing much work can be a sign of some problem in the body. However, fatty liver cannot be confirmed based on fatigue alone.
2. Discomfort in the upper right part of the stomach
Some people may feel slight pain or heaviness around the liver. If this happens continuously, it is better to consult a doctor.
3. Weight gain and fat around the stomach
Obesity, and especially abdominal fat, are major risk factors for fatty liver. Sitting for long periods of time and reducing physical activity can also increase the risk.
4. Yellowing of eyes or skin
This is not a common early symptom of fatty liver, but if yellowness is seen in the eyes or skin, it should not be ignored. This may be a sign of a serious liver problem and immediate medical attention is necessary.
5. Swelling in stomach or legs
Unusual swelling in the abdomen or legs may be associated with serious liver disorders. In case of such symptoms, one should get checked by a doctor without any delay.
Bad lifestyle is the main reason
Fast food, high-calorie meals, sugary drinks, low physical activity and increasing obesity can increase the risk of fatty liver. Its risk is also seen to be higher in people with diabetes and metabolic problems.
