Meta Platforms plans to launch a consumer AI agent platform codenamed 'Hatch' in the coming weeks, followed by a new AI model dubbed 'Watermelon' in October.

  • Meta aims to launch its OpenClaw-inspired consumer AI agent platform, internally named “Hatch.”
  • The tech giant is targeting an October release for its next major AI model, codenamed “Watermelon.”
  • The launches mark Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg’s strategy to monetize AI investments and diversify revenue beyond digital ads.

Meta Platforms is preparing an aggressive expansion of its artificial intelligence ecosystem, planning to launch a consumer AI agent platform within weeks and a new AI model in October, The Information reported, citing internal documents.

The upcoming consumer AI agent platform, known internally as "Hatch," is derived from OpenClaw and could launch in late August or early September. The initiative represents a core part of Meta Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg’s broader attempt to turn massive AI research expenditures into direct revenue, moving beyond the company's core advertising business.

To monetize the technology, Meta has considered a tiered pricing structure that includes a premium subscription costing up to $199.99 per month for expanded usage capacity, The Information reported.

Deep Web Integration And WhatsApp Expansion

The internal documents show that Hatch is trained to navigate and interact directly with external web services and platforms, including DoorDash, Etsy, Reddit, Yelp, and Microsoft Outlook. Prototype designs feature a customizable dashboard that can display custom skills built by agents, such as automated fitness tracking or travel itinerary planning.

Alongside Hatch, Meta is preparing to roll out a WhatsApp integration. The feature will permit users to connect with third-party AI agents directly within the messaging app, starting with a limited user trial slated to begin as early as this week, according to The Information.

A Meta spokesperson declined to comment on the internal documents.

Rapid Model Releases

Meta is also targeting an October release for its latest AI model, codenamed “Watermelon,” though internal documents did not clarify whether it will be integrated into existing model lines or introduced as a standalone system.

The company has significantly quickened its development pace to close the competitive gap with rivals such as OpenAI and Anthropic. In April, the company debuted Muse Spark, its first model from Meta Superintelligence Labs. That was followed in July by Muse Spark 1.1, which focused on autonomous coding and desktop control, and in August by Muse Spark 1.2 alongside Muse Code, an agent targeted at software engineering.

Dual Strategy: Proprietary And Open Source

While pushing premium proprietary tools, Meta continues to maintain its presence in open-source development. The company recently unveiled Muse Glimmer, a smaller open model, while Zuckerberg authored a public essay advocating for open-source AI accessibility. Meta has also committed to releasing an open-weight version of Muse Spark 1.2.

The combined moves highlight Meta's parallel track: building commercial, closed-loop agents to challenge market leaders while leveraging open-weight models to maintain developer mindshare.
