There was panic after a suspected IED was found in the forested area behind Sector 43 bus stand of Chandigarh. As soon as the information was received, police and security agencies reached the spot and cordoned off the area. Three people have also been arrested in this case. As a precautionary measure, surrounding security was increased and surveillance on people and vehicles was increased in the surrounding areas including the bus stand.

Chandigarh Police said that three people have been arrested in the case. According to the police, suspected IED, a weapon and some other material have been recovered from the arrested people. FIR has been registered in the Sector-36 police station in the matter. Initial investigation has revealed possible links of the arrested accused to Punjab, although the police has not yet shared its detailed information.

Suspected IED was kept in the bag

According to initial information, police had received information about a suspected explosive device from the forest area behind Sector 43 bus stand. Investigation revealed that an IED was kept in a bag. After this the police surrounded the entire area and limited the voice of the people. Security arrangements were also tightened in the bus stand and surrounding areas. Security agencies are also examining the recovered material.

Increased security in the city

After the incident, Chandigarh Police has increased vigilance in the city. Additional surveillance is being maintained at Sector 43 bus stand and surrounding areas. Police said that all necessary precautionary measures are being taken keeping public safety in mind. The investigating agencies are trying to find out the nature of the IED, the role of the accused and the possible motive behind the incident.
