Glen McGrath, a legend of Australian pace, believes India already has the fast bowler to replace Mohammed Shami in the future. As India prepare for the next stage of their fast-bowling transition, he has tipped another pace bowler to be Jasprit Bumrah's long-term partner.

 

Talking about the Indian speed battery, McGrath showed his admiration and opined that Prasidh Krishna has progressed a lot in the past few years and has everything to be successful at the higher level. The legendary Australian has had a good eye on the progress of the pacer in his position as Director of Coaching in the MRF Pace Foundation.

 

McGrath Sees Bright Future for India's Pace Attack

 

McGrath praised the Indian fast bowler and explained why he feels that the young pacer is ready for more.

 

"I'm a big fan of Prasidh. If he gets his length right, he's got everything going for him. He has really matured. He's tall, bowls in good areas, generates bounce and has genuine pace."

 

The legendary fast bowler acknowledged that unless he can maintain a consistent length, he has nothing to work on.

 

"Occasionally he's a little short, but apart from that, I think he's the whole package. He's really developed and put his potential into performance."

 

These comments from McGrath also come at a time when India are actively trying to assemble a formidable pace attack for the forthcoming ICC tournaments. With several new fast bowlers getting chances, the selectors are trying to groom a bowling unit that can support the team in the years ahead.

Transition After Mohammed Shami Won't Be Easy

 

Another point that McGrath noted was that bowling leaders like Mohammed Shami cannot be replaced this quickly. He mentioned that India's bowling attack has been relying on the pace trio that is world-class for a long time.

 

"You've got Bumrah, who's a class bowler, and Mohammed Shami, who's world-class as well. Mohammed Siraj has been around for a long time too. You can't just expect to pick up straight where you left off. It's always going to be a transitional period."

 

He pointed out that what Australia is going through will only be a temporary phase when players like Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc won't be around in international cricket anymore.

 

McGrath Leaves Door Open for Senior Pacers

 

On the other hand, when asked about the future, McGrath declined to rule out the possibility of a comeback for the seasoned bowlers like Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, as long as they keep themselves fit and continue to do well.

 

"If they're prepared to put the work in and their body allows it, then why not? As fast bowlers get older, the work only gets tougher. Ultimately, it's up to them and the selectors."

 

India's pace attack is entering a new era, but McGrath reckons that the right pace attack in Test cricket is all about balancing youth and experience. His confidence in Prasidh Krishna is clearly spilling out, and we shall see how he fares with greater responsibilities.
