India is set to witness its first-ever BBL game as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to make the announcement regarding the same during his visit to Australia next week.
As per reports from Australian media, the inaugural game of the next season of BBL will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on 12th December. The proposed game has the Melbourne Renegades taking on the Perth Scorchers, with the exact fixtures awaiting a final pitch with CA and BCCI.
If green-lit, it would be the first game of Australian domestic cricket to ever take place in India.
Chennai Set to Host Historic BBL Opener
The Indian prime minister is set to visit Australia between the 8th and the 10th of July. It is said that the announcement might be made in the course of the visit, as it is doing in promoting close ties in sport between the two nations.
Cricket Australia has been researching this project for months. At the beginning of this year, two senior state officials, Phil Rigby and Margot Harley, visited India to find out about the possibility of holding a BBL match. After that, a five-member team paid a visit to Chennai and examined the amenities of MA Chidambaram Stadium and had a dialogue with BCCI representatives.
It is apparently assumed that the plan has had glowing approval from the BCCI and the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association. Although Cricket Australia explored the idea of taking more than one BBL game to India at the start of the season, apparently, the time constraints have only allowed for the first game.
Under the proposed deal, Melbourne Renegades would relinquish a fixture at home to play the Perth Scorchers in Chennai.

Travel and Weather Could Present Challenges
Despite the plans that are underway, some logistical problems are yet to be sorted out before the fixture can be confirmed.
The other major issue is travel. There are no direct flights from Australia to Chennai, so both teams will have to endure excruciatingly long trips with 13-odd-hour stopovers-this will most definitely be a consideration for the coaching staff when planning recovery regimes along with the overall BBL schedule.
Weather! Chennai is notorious for heavy rains during the northeast monsoon period of December, so there is a lot of doubt about match conditions. There is also some debate about starting time, with debates about having the day start, which would be more suited to the Australian television viewing fans or the twilight start, which would draw in more crowds from India.
Once all approvals are done, the match would be a historic one for the BBL and would take the India-Australia cricket partnership to a new level…While bringing one of Australia's largest domestic tournaments to Indian fans for the first time, it would also be a critical step towards having a successful BBL in the near future.
