New Delhi: Kia is preparing to expand its electric vehicle lineup in India with the upcoming Syros EV, which is expected to debut in August. The model will serve as the brand’s most affordable electric SUV in the country and will compete in the rapidly growing mass-market EV segment.
Recent spy images of the vehicle testing on Indian roads have revealed several design and feature details, giving a clearer picture of what to expect from the production version.
Despite heavy camouflage, the Syros EV maintains the boxy design and upright stance of the internal combustion engine (ICE) version. The charging port is located on the left front fender, confirming its electric nature.
The SUV is expected to feature redesigned bumpers, aero-optimized alloy wheels, and EV-specific styling elements. The lighting setup, including vertically stacked LED headlamps and L-shaped DRLs, appears similar to the standard Syros.
Spy shots also suggest the presence of sensors for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and a 360-degree camera setup, indicating a feature-rich package.
The interior of the Syros EV is likely to follow the layout of the petrol and diesel variants. It may include dual 12.3-inch screens, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, wireless charging, and connected car technology.
Additional EV-specific features could include Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, updated digital display graphics, and revised interior trims to differentiate it from the ICE version.
The Syros EV is expected to be built on Kia’s K1 platform, which also underpins the Hyundai Inster EV globally. It is likely to offer battery options around 42 kWh and 49 kWh, with a front-wheel-drive setup.
Fast-charging capability is expected, with the ability to charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes under ideal conditions. The driving range is expected to be competitive within its segment, though India-specific figures will be confirmed closer to launch.
The Syros EV is likely to be priced between ₹15 lakh and ₹20 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it as Kia’s entry-level electric SUV in India.
Once launched, it will compete directly with models such as the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV, and higher variants of the Tata Punch EV, strengthening Kia’s presence in the Indian EV market.
