New Delhi: Shubman Gill broke Shikhar Dhawan’s record to become the fastest Indian batter to 3,000 runs in ODIs. The Indian skipper achieved the feat during the first ODI against Afghanistan at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala on Saturday, June 13. Gill completed the milestone en route to his sublime half-century against the visitors.

Gill opened the batting with Rohit Sharma for India in the 195-run chase against Afghanistan in the rain-curtailed 25-overs-a-side match. He took control of India’s chase right from the onset and went on to complete his fifty off just 37 balls. The classy right-hander also went past the 3,000-run mark in his ODI career en route to his half-century.

Gill completed the 3,000-run milestone in just 62 innings to become the fastest Indian to achieve the feat, going past former India opener Shikhar Dhawan, who did it in 72 innings. The Indian skipper also became the second-fastest batter overall to 3,000 ODI runs, behind only former South Africa batter Hasim Amla, who achived the feat in 57 innings.

Fastest to 3000 ODI runs (by innings)

57 – Hashim Amla

62 – Shubman Gill

67 – Shai Hope

67 – Fakhar Zaman

67 – Imam-ul-Haq

Gill has enjoyed a remarkable run for India in ODIs ever since making his debut in the format in 2019. He has established his credentials as one of the best batters in the 50-over format and has been among the most consistent performers for India. In 62 innings, the right-hander has over 3,000 runs at an average of over 57, including eight centuries.
