The man at the centre of the 370 Biryani controversy has finally spoken at length about what happened and what has happened to him since. Himanshu Jangra, the 23-year-old whose remarks on Pranit More’s comedy show triggered one of the most significant social media backlashes in recent memory, has opened up about losing his job, the impact on his family, and his claim that the story he told on stage was not entirely true.
The conversation took place on the Instagram page of Starvik Design, the Gurgaon-based web development company where Himanshu had been working before being fired. The company’s founder Vivek Vishwakarma sat down with him to give him a space to present his side of the story, with a caption making clear that the conversation was not an endorsement of anything he had said, but simply an opportunity for context.

The most significant detail to emerge from the conversation is Himanshu’s claim that what he described on Pranit More’s show was not a straightforward account of something that actually happened. He acknowledged that he had gone on a date with someone, but said that much of what he described on stage was exaggerated and improvised in the moment, shaped by the energy in the room and the kinds of stories other audience members had been sharing before him.
He said he used the wrong words, that his actual mentality and intentions are nothing like what his remarks suggested, and that he deeply regrets the way he chose to present the story. He said he had always maintained respectful relationships with female colleagues throughout his working life and that the person who came across on that stage does not reflect who he actually is.
The personal consequences have been severe and came from multiple directions at once.
Himanshu described two weeks of relentless trolling across social media that showed no sign of slowing down. For the first week, his family back home had no idea what was happening, he had been managing it quietly, hoping it would pass. Then his uncle found out, called him, and he asked him to keep it contained and wait for things to die down.
They did not die down. The controversy reached his neighbourhood. People came to his family’s home and told his parents directly what their son had said on camera. His parents called him back. He returned, admitted the mistake, and received the kind of response from his family that he said he deserved.
But the moment things escalated significantly was when the news of his termination reached them. His former employer Starvik Design let him go following the backlash, a consequence he had not prepared his family for. Seeing their reaction to that news, he said, was when the full weight of regret set in. Not regret about what he had said exactly, but regret that he had gone on the show at all.

For context, during a crowd work segment on Pranit More’s show, Himanshu described spending 370 on a plate of chicken biryani for a date and then framing what happened next in terms of getting a return on that financial investment. He described pressuring the woman to accompany him to a dark park late at night despite her repeatedly expressing that she did not want to go.
Pranit More did not intervene in the moment and has since issued two public apologies acknowledging that he should have stepped in and challenged what was being said rather than letting it continue.
