Bengaluru: Bengaluru may witness moderate to heavy showers today. A few areas in the city may witness light rain, especially during late afternoon or night. However, chances of rain may decrease by Sunday.
Even as the though cloudy intervals may continue in Bengaluru and adjoining areas, the city may witness pleasant mornings and temperatures that can be managed in the morning during the weekend.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for thunderstorms and strong winds in parts of Karnataka in the next three days. While orange and yellow alerts have been issued for many areas in the states, thunderstorms with wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph can be expected in north interior parts of Karnataka till May 17.
Even as the wind speed may decrease on May 18, there are chances of thunderstorms in some parts of the region. Apart from North Interior Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka may also experience thunderstorms with wind speeds of 40-50 kmph during the same period.
Heavy rains are likely due to the depression in the Bay of Bengal. As per officials, thunderstorms with thunder and lightning can be expected in nearly half of Karnataka. Because of this, yellow alert has been declared in several parts of Karnataka.
Importantly, yellow alert has been issued in Raichur, Yadgir, Koppal, Bagalkot, Gadag, Dharwad, Bellary, Haveri, Vijayanagar, Shimoga, Davangere, Chitradurga, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru Hassan, Kodagu, Tumkur, Mandya,Mysore, Ramanagara, Chamarajanagar, Kolar, Bangalore Urban, Chikkaballapur, Bangalore Rural districts.
Notably, northeasterly winds are moving towards the South Andhra Pradesh coast, and northerly winds are currently passing through coastal Karnataka and Kerala. The wind streams have led to a wind discontinuity zone across Rayalaseema, Karnataka, and the interior parts of Tamil Nadu.
