Money expert Martin Lewis has highlighted a market-leading bank switch offer which will give supermarket shoppers money to spend in store plush free cash into your account on top.

Martin Lewis said via his Money Saving Expert newsletter on Tuesday that First Direct is now offering customers of other big banks like Barclays, Santander and Lloyds the chance to switch to First Direct and get £175 free cash, as well as a range of other perks including £35 to spend at major supermarkets including Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Aldi, Morrisons, Waitrose, M&S and Iceland.

Switchers will also be able to access a 7% interest rate regular saver plus a 0% overdraft.

Martin's MSE newsletter said: "FREE '£210', 7% regular saver, 0% overdraft, top debit card overseas. The ongoing £175 free cash is this week boosted via our specific First Direct link, which gives £35 to spend at most big supermarkets in-store/online (Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Aldi, Morrisons, Waitrose, M&S, Iceland).

"Other perks include: - Service rated 92% 'great' - it's topped almost every poll we've ever done; - Linked 1yr 7% fixed regular saver you can put up to £300/mth in; Most get an ongoing £250 interest-free overdraft (don't go over); Top debit card for spending overseas with near-perfect exchange rates."

To get the deal, you need to have £1,000 paid in within 45 days (which can be over time, not necessarily all at once).

The account has no fees and is also open to joint accounts.

For those who have used up their First Direct switch bonus eligibility, Barclays is also offering £200 to switchers if they pay in £2,000 in total within 30 days. After that, you must keep paying in at least £800 a month.

Club Lloyds is offering a free £200 as well, though it has a much higher minimum £2,000 a month pay-in, and Santander Edge is offering a free £180 with up to £10 a month cashback on bills, for those who pay in £1,500 upon opening the account and a further £500 a month thereafter.

The Santander Edge does cost £3 a month, but MSE explains that this is more than made up for by the £10 cashback for most account holders.
