One Coronation Street actress looks virtually unrecognisable after shedding three stone and undergoing a costly eyelid procedure. Lisa George, who portrayed Beth Tinker on the long-running soap, recently spoke candidly about the operation, which set her back £8,000. The 55-year-old departed Corrie in 2024 after 13 years on the programme. Since her exit, she has shed three stone and undergone an upper blepharoplasty, a procedure that removes excess skin, muscle, and sometimes fat from the upper eyelids. She has also had a brow lift. Lisa has opened up about her reasons for going under the knife, revealing how her previous appearance left her feeling "very down".
Speaking to Closer, she said: "Every time I squinted or smiled, my top lid would cover my whole eye. I'd look like I was frowning and it'd make me feel so down." She further revealed that, during her time on Corrie, she would apply so much eyeshadow that it would gather in the creases of her eyelid.
Following her procedures and weight loss, Lisa is delighted with her new look, yet has confirmed she intends to go under the knife once more. The actress is keen to have a lower facelift as well. She stated that she is refusing to "grow old gracefully with great big bin bags".
Alongside surgery, Lisa has been working hard to shed the pounds. This follows her diagnosis with Type 2 diabetes and being made to feel "ashamed" about her weight after a remark that she looked "massive on telly". The star was placed on a low-FODMAP diet, a temporary dietary programme that restricts foods the gut struggles to break down, designed to manage digestive complaints such as irritable bowel symptoms.
Lisa revealed that she consulted an endocrinologist regarding stomach troubles she had been experiencing, who subsequently recommended the low-FODMAP diet. She described the diet as "restrictive" but noted that it helped her identify what her body was "having a reaction to". By adhering to the diet, Lisa said the "weight just fell off".
Lisa's Coronation Street character Beth first appeared on the cobbles in 2011 after being contacted by ex-boyfriend Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson), and remained after securing a machinist's position at Frank Foster's (Andrew Lancel) factory. She was ultimately forced to flee after uncovering that Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) was a corrupt police officer.
Last October, Lisa spoke candidly to the Mirror about her struggles with her eyesight. She received a diagnosis of NAION (non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy) after years of searching for answers, having first experienced sight loss in 2016, with a further episode in 2022. She described how frightening her vision problems were after finding herself unable to read a menu.
She said: "I remember thinking, "Something is really wrong." I phoned the opthamologist the next day and was sent to A&E and was back in hospital for a week. They told me it must've been my diabetes; I hadn't been fully diagnosed with it yet." She also expressed concern about the impact on her acting career: "I really don't want my eyes to deteriorate any more. When it first happened, one of my fears was, 'How am I going to work in a theatre if the stage is dark?'"
