Police believe they may have discovered the body of an 18-year-old Birmingham City supporter who travelled to attend the club's match against Derby County last weekend. Paul Pike was last seen outside Pride Park, Derby's stadium, just before 1pm on Saturday, March 21, before being seen on CCTV walking along the riverside path, and an appeal was made by the police for information.
On Friday, March 27, Derbyshire Police said they found items believed to belong to him on a path close to Pride Park. The force has now confirmed that officials searching the River Derwent near Pride Park discovered a body just before 10.30am today, Sunday, March 29. Formal identification has yet to take place; however, Paul's family has been made aware.
His family have asked that their privacy is respected at this time. The cops also said the death was not being treated as suspicious and there was not believed to be any third-party involvement.
The force also thanked the "large number of people" for their efforts in finding Paul, with several groups, including both Rams' and Blues' fans, carrying out searches in the area over the last week. A file is now being prepared for the coroner.
It was only on Friday that Paul's family issued a heartfelt plea for the 18-year-old to come home.
The statement read: "Paul, you are not in trouble at all, we just want you home.
"Come home so we can look forward to the cricket season at Warwickshire and the rest of the season for the Blues. I will also sort out the away tickets for Hull."
