Set between Seasons 2 and 3
Stranger Things: Tales From '85 is set during the winter of 1985, bridging the timeline between the second and third seasons of Stranger Things.

The story reunites fan-favourite characters — Will, Mike, Lucas, Dustin, Max and Eleven — while introducing a new addition, Nikki Baxter, a young tinkerer who joins the group. Together, they confront a dangerous new threat: a sinister breed of vine-like creatures emerging from the Upside Down. As the mystery deepens, the group uncovers unsettling paranormal events gripping their town.

A fresh take with retro roots
The series blends modern CG animation with a painterly 2D style, drawing inspiration from visually striking projects like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Arcane. At the same time, it leans into the nostalgic charm of ’80s cartoons such as The Real Ghostbusters and Beetlejuice.

Despite its retro influence, the show aims for a cinematic finish, with high-quality CG animation comparable to modern video game cutscenes. Early footage showcased at the Annecy festival reportedly featured Hawkins Lab, an intense Chief Hopper, and the group navigating new dangers.

Creators and production
The show is executive produced by Eric Robles, alongside The Duffer Brothers through Upside Down Pictures. Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen (21 Laps), along with Hilary Leavitt, also serve as executive producers.

Animation is handled by Flying Bark Productions, known for its work on The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender.
