New Delhi:The beginning of December in Delhi-NCR may have started with mild cold, but now the weather is about to take a sudden turn. According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature may drop rapidly to 6 to 7 degrees Celsius in the coming two days. At the same time, the maximum temperature is also expected to drop slightly to around 24 degrees Celsius. This drop in temperature will further intensify the cold wave, due to which Delhiites will start feeling the severe cold.


Fog and chill likely to increase from 10 to 14 December


The impact of the weather in Delhi is going to deepen next week. According to the forecast, there are indications of dense or partial fog in many areas between December 10 and 14. This will reduce visibility in the morning and night, while it may remain cool even during the day.


There is every possibility of the temperature going down in Noida and Ghaziabad also. The minimum temperature in both the cities may remain around 10 to 11 degrees, due to which the chill will increase in the morning.


Effect of cold wave in many parts of the country


The Indian Meteorological Department has said that the effect of cold wave will continue in the central, eastern and northern peninsular areas from 9 to 12 December. Many areas of North-West India will remain under the influence of cold winds from 10 to 12 December.


Temperature drops by 4 degrees in north-west India


According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature in the plains of north-west India may fall by 2 degrees in the coming 48 hours. In the next three days, this decrease may increase to 2 to 4 degrees. This continuous drop in temperature can cause frostbite at many places.


Severe cold in many districts of Rajasthan


Fatehpur in Sikar district was among the coldest areas of the state, where the minimum temperature was recorded at 4.4 degrees Celsius. The temperature in Nagaur, Bikaner, Churu and Alwar also remained between 5 to 6 degrees. The effect of cold wave is being clearly felt in Karauli and Pilani also. Amarnath Yatra base camp was the coldest place recorded in Jammu and Kashmir, where the temperature dropped to minus 4.3 degrees.


Effect of cold in Punjab, Haryana and Central India also


The minimum temperature in many parts of Punjab and Haryana remained between 3 to 7 degrees Celsius. Cold wave warning has also been issued at many places in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, Odisha and Chhattisgarh.


Cold increases in Delhi, pollution problem persists


The minimum temperature in Delhi on Monday was 8 degrees Celsius, which is slightly higher than 6.8 degrees a day earlier but 1.6 degrees less than normal. The maximum temperature was recorded at 24.7 degrees. However, with the drop in temperature, the situation of air pollution in Delhi still remains worrying. The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) is constantly hovering between 300 and 350, which falls in the ‘very poor’ category.
